Starting next month, individuals experiencing eye-related issues will have the opportunity to benefit from free eye clinics rolling out nationwide, thanks to a collaborative initiative by the Island Eye Clinic and New Vision of Fiji. The Island Eye Clinic, a subsidiary of the Island Group of Companies, has been providing complimentary eye checkups at its Island Medical Centre in Suva since April 1, demonstrating a strong commitment to promoting eye health.
Managing Director Azad Ali emphasized the importance of eye health, stating, “The eyes are just as important as the heart or any other organ in the human body,” urging individuals to seek eye examinations before irreversible damage occurs. As preparations continue for mobile eye clinics to reach various communities, Ali highlighted their goal to make eye care more accessible.
This initiative follows the earlier efforts of the Island Medical Centre to offer free eye screenings, which aim to eliminate the financial barriers typically associated with eye care, encouraging regular check-ups. In a related development, the Centre is planning to establish a mini-private hospital in Suva, enhancing healthcare infrastructure further and reducing access challenges for patients requiring specialized care.
The commitment to eye health is echoed in the experiences of individuals like retired principal Kuber Singh, who has shared his gratitude for the free cataract surgeries he received and has encouraged others to prioritize regular eye examinations. Such personal testimonies underscore the transformative impact of accessible healthcare services, renewing hope and enhancing the quality of life for those affected by vision impairments.
Overall, these initiatives reflect an encouraging trend towards better healthcare access in Fiji, where communities can look forward to improved health outcomes as these programs take shape. The collaborative efforts of local health institutions and international medical teams promise a brighter, healthier future for individuals needing eye care.
