Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel is calling on fans to rally in support of the Fiji Women’s National Football Team, known as the Kulas, as they embark on their campaign in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Oceania Qualifiers. The opening match against New Caledonia is set for today at 4 PM at Govind Park’s 4R Stadium.

With aspirations high for the team to secure a historic spot in the World Cup, Patel is encouraging a strong turnout from the community. To facilitate this, entry to all matches during the qualifiers is free, aiming to attract families and football enthusiasts alike.

“This is a significant moment for women’s football in Fiji, and we want the whole nation to participate in this journey,” said Patel. He emphasized that the decision to offer free entry is designed to encourage young girls, families, and supporters to come out and cheer for their national team.

Today’s match will also coincide with a special event, as the Commonwealth Games King’s Baton Relay will make a stop in Ba before the kick-off. The Baton is expected to arrive at the Fiji FA Ba Academy at 2:15 PM and proceed to Govind Park by 2:30 PM, allowing fans the chance to view and take photographs with this emblem of the Commonwealth Games.

Patel expressed pride in hosting the King’s Baton during this significant international fixture, stating, “It is an honor for Fiji Football to be part of the King’s Baton Relay celebrations. Having the Baton present at such an important Oceania qualifier adds prestige to the occasion and underscores the unity of sport in our country.”

Patel concluded by urging everyone to come early, soak in the atmosphere, and show unwavering support for the Kulas as they take on New Caledonia in this crucial match. The community’s enthusiasm and backing could prove pivotal in the team’s quest for World Cup qualification.
