Preparations for this year’s McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s, spearheaded by founder Jay Whyte, have proven to be both demanding and rewarding, as interest and participation in the event continue to grow. The tournament is now a staple on both the local and international rugby calendars, a testament to its established reputation and appeal.

Whyte emphasized that strong partnerships and community support are crucial to the tournament’s ongoing success. A key priority for the organizers is to maintain the event’s unique identity, which includes offering free entry to fans. He expressed gratitude for the sponsors who enable this aspect, stating, “It’s always a challenge, but we’re very fortunate and grateful to all the sponsors who help make it happen. Because of their support, we’re able to put on a world-class event and still keep it free for the people of Fiji, which is a very unique part of the Coral Coast 7s experience.”

In his remarks, Whyte acknowledged the significant contributions of major partners and highlighted the dedication of the organizing committee. Comprised of volunteers who voluntarily balance their commitments to the event with their full-time jobs, these individuals are motivated by their passion for rugby and their desire to give back to their community.

The Coral Coast 7s tournament is set to commence on the 15th of this month at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, with live coverage available on FBC Sports. The initiative not only promotes rugby but also fosters community spirit and cultural exchange, showcasing Fiji’s hospitality and love for the game to an international audience.
