Caught after four years, Police Cyber task force catch fraudster

Fraudster’s Four-Year Scheme Unraveled by Police

Fiji Police have apprehended a 38-year-old man who allegedly swindled nearly $27,000 from unsuspecting victims over a three-year period, from August 2021 to November 2024. The suspect reportedly took advantage of online platforms, primarily Facebook, where he posted numerous advertisements for building materials, offering various mobile contacts for potential buyers.

Despite receiving payments, the man failed to deliver the promised goods, leading to eight victims filing reports at police stations in Totogo, Valelevu, and Nausori. Following the investigation, he has been charged with 12 counts of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception. The accused is set to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today.

This case highlights the increasing importance of vigilance when it comes to online transactions, as fraudsters continue to exploit digital platforms. The efforts of the Fiji Police Cyber Task Force have proven instrumental in addressing such crimes, ensuring that victims receive justice and fostering a safer online environment for the community.

In a hopeful note, the police’s success in catching the fraudster underscores the effectiveness of reporting scams and the commitment of law enforcement to combat online deception. The public is encouraged to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to help curb such fraudulent actions in the future.
