Fraud Alert: Two Men Face Court Over Deceptive Schemes

Two men are set to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today after being charged by the Fiji Police Mpaisa Task Force for separate incidents of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.

The first individual, a 36-year-old man from Wailea, Vatuwaqa, is accused of defrauding a victim of $447 on May 21, 2023. He allegedly told the victim that he had mistakenly sent a One Time Pin (OTP) and requested that she send the details back to him. After receiving the OTP, he is said to have transferred the money and used it for his personal expenses.

In a separate case, another 36-year-old man from Koronivia is alleged to have obtained $190 from a victim on November 17, 2023, under false pretenses. The victim reportedly saw a Facebook post regarding a car for hire, which prompted her to send a deposit to the number listed. The accused allegedly took the payment without providing the promised service.

Both individuals will face the charges today in court.
