“France to Clash with Fiji in Epic Olympic Men’s Rugby Sevens Final”

Hosts France will face Fiji in the Gold Medal match after both teams secured decisive victories in the semi-finals, with France defeating South Africa 19-5 and Fiji overpowering Australia 31-7.

In the first semi-final, France initially struggled to capitalize on early territory due to some nervous mistakes and a strong South African defense, keeping the game scoreless at halftime. South Africa broke the deadlock early in the second half with Tristan Leyds scoring in the corner, though the conversion was missed.

France quickly retaliated with a try from Rayan Rebbadj, who also successfully converted it. Rebbadj scored again just two minutes later, converting once more to put France ahead. Antoine Dupont’s quick thinking led to Jordan Sepho adding the final points for France, sealing a 19-5 victory. This win puts France one step away from winning gold in Paris, offering some redemption after their Rugby World Cup quarter-final loss to South Africa last year.

In the second semi-final, Australia initially took the lead after six minutes with Ben Dowling’s try, converted by Dietrich Roache. However, Fiji dominated from the second period onwards, showcasing their characteristic flair. Joji Nasova scored the first of four Fijian tries in the eighth minute, converted by Iowane Teba. Iosefo Baleiwairiki and Kamineli Rasaku added further tries, with Teba and Waisea Nacuqu making successful conversions. A penalty by Terio Veilawa extended the lead, and Selestino Ravutaumada cemented Fiji’s victory with a final try, converted by Nacuqu, resulting in a 31-7 triumph.

This victory maintains Fiji’s unbeaten record in Olympic Sevens matches.
