Jean-Philippe Mateta’s fifth-minute strike was the decisive factor as France defeated Argentina 1-0 to secure a spot in the semifinal of the men’s football competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Despite Michael Olise’s late goal being disallowed due to a foul in the buildup, the host nation managed to maintain composure through ten minutes of stoppage time and confirm their progression.

France will face Egypt in the semifinal on August 5, while Spain will take on Morocco in the other semifinal fixture.
