Jean-Philippe Mateta’s early strike in the fifth minute was enough to secure France a 1-0 victory over Argentina, earning them a spot in the semifinals of the men’s football competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Despite Michael Olise’s late goal being disallowed due to a foul in the build-up, the host nation maintained composure to endure the ten minutes of stoppage time and confirm their progression.

France will compete against Egypt in the semifinal on August 5, while Spain is set to face Morocco in the other semifinal match.
