Empowering Unity: Multi-Ethnic Grants Ignite Community Development in Fiji

Fostering Unity: $383,900 in Multi-Ethnic Grants Distributed in Fiji

Minister Charan Jeath Singh, who oversees Multi-Ethnic Affairs and the Sugar Industry, recently announced the distribution of Multi-Ethnic Grants totaling $383,900 to 55 communities across the Western Division. This initiative underscores the Government’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and social cohesion, a theme highlighted during the grant handover ceremony at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka.

During the event, Singh expressed the significance of these grants in fostering unity among diverse populations, with a goal to enhance cultural exchange and understanding. The funding will facilitate various community projects, including improvements in water management, community fencing, the acquisition of equipment, musical instruments, and necessary renovations. By empowering local organizations, the government aims to bolster their capabilities and promote long-term sustainability.

Notably, the applications for these grants were handled transparently, ensuring a fair process in line with the Ministry’s Grant Call criteria. Singh elaborated that this initiative builds upon previous efforts to uplift minority groups, reaffirming the government’s ongoing commitment to empowering all ethnic communities in Fiji. In line with this, earlier initiatives had included a substantial $1.5 million funding allocation aimed at revitalizing community-based organizations after a lengthy 14-year gap, showcasing a persistent focus on inclusivity and support.

As the projects unfold, there is strong potential for these grants to strengthen community bonds, creating an environment in which every individual can thrive and contribute to the growth of Fiji. This initiative not only meets immediate development needs but also paves the way for a cohesive, vibrant society that values and embraces its diversity.
