The Permanent Secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca, announced that the IQ Active competition is designed to enhance student engagement in academics while promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

During the launch of Fiji’s largest national secondary school general knowledge quiz competition, Kuruleca highlighted the importance of fostering academic engagement through this initiative. A total of fifty secondary schools, including five maritime institutions, are set to participate in the 2024 competition, involving over 200 students from various divisions.

Kuruleca applauded Fiji TV for bringing back the competition and urged participants to collaborate effectively and communicate well.

“This competition should inspire and cultivate critical thinking. Rather than approaching problems from a single perspective, students need to be challenged to think both critically and creatively, which will enhance their problem-solving abilities and intellectual skills. Students should prepare as they typically would while also considering the best possible solutions in a creative and critical manner,” she stated.

Acting CEO of Fiji Television, Felix Chaudhary, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s education sector, particularly in promoting literacy and numeracy.

“The commitment of Fiji TV is to nurture these competencies, and we look forward to continuing this effort in the future,” he said.

The 2024 IQ Active competition is set to premiere on October 7th on Fiji One.
