Former Radiology Technician Granted Bail Amid Allegations

A former radiology technical officer at CWM Hospital, who is facing charges of obtaining financial advantage and forgery, has been granted a $3000 non-cash bail.

Apisai Qumivutia allegedly received cash payments from a patient for an MRI scan but failed to submit the funds to the hospital cashier, amounting to $3520.

The incident reportedly occurred in December 2018.

Mr. Qumivutia made his first court appearance before Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad on Thursday.

FICAC lawyer Sameea Nisa served the first phase of disclosures and requested strict bail conditions. Her request for 21 days to file and serve the second phase of disclosures was granted by the court.

Mr. Qumivutia is required to report to FICAC once a month, surrender his passport, and not change his residential address without the court’s approval.

The case has been adjourned to August 13 for his plea to be taken.
