An appeal against the deregistration of the FijiFirst party has been lodged with the Electoral Commission (EC), as confirmed last night. The deadline for the appeal by former party members was yesterday.
Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa had deregistered the party on July 1, giving those affected by the decision 15 days to appeal. According to two sources within the dissident group, who have not shown support for the Coalition Government, an appeal has been officially filed.
“We recommend you get details from the Electoral Commission to avoid jeopardizing the application process,” said a former party member.
EC chairperson Barbara Malimali declined to comment on the issue. A ruling by the Electoral Commission will be final and cannot be challenged in any court of law.
