Former Fiji 7s representative Senivalati Vunibola recently expressed strong support for Osea Kolinisau’s role as head coach of the Fiji Airways men’s 7s team. During a one-day invitational sevens tournament named in his honor, held in Nakorosule, Naitasiri, Vunibola emphasized that only a seasoned player like Kolinisau, who has previously played alongside him, can effectively lead the national team. Vunibola highlighted the unique insight that former players possess regarding the game’s dynamics such as defense and attack.
Vunibola praised Kolinisau’s approach to coaching, noting his ability to connect positively with players, which distinguishes him from other coaches who might discourage their teams. Since taking over as head coach last year, Kolinisau has led Fiji to impressive finishes in the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS World Series, including a victory in the Dubai tournament and a third place finish in Cape Town. Vunibola expressed his optimism for Fiji’s ongoing progress under Kolinisau’s leadership.
As the national team prepares for the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament and the Perth 7s scheduled from January 24-26, their current standing as leaders of the World SVNS Series is a testament to their hard work and determination. The dedication shown by the team reflects a hopeful environment as they strive for success on the international stage.
Coach Kolinisau’s leadership and former experience as a player are crucial assets that can inspire the team and young athletes alike. The commitment to improvement and teamwork sets a positive trajectory for the Fiji 7s team as they advance in the series.
