Former Fiji Corrections Services Acting Commissioner Chooses Lower Court Hearing – Abuse of Office Case Update

Former acting commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Services (FCS), Salote Panapasa, has opted for her case to be heard in the magistrate’s court.

Her lawyer, Vinisoni Filipe, informed the court and confirmed the receipt of second phase disclosures from FICAC.

Magistrate Krishan Prasad allowed the defense 21 days to thoroughly review the disclosures before advising on a plea.

Ms. Panapasa faces two counts of abuse of office for allegedly redirecting building materials intended for FCS projects to her home in Kinoya, Nasinu, between August and October of last year.

She is also accused of altering a weekly report in August last year to renovate her house without proper justification for the use of the building materials.

Ms. Panapasa will have her plea recorded on the next court date.

Her bail was extended, and the case was adjourned to July 26.
