“Former Boxing Commission Chairman Reveals Why Krishnil Mudaliar’s Titles Were Vacated”

Krishnil Mudaliar’s boxing titles were vacated for two main reasons, as stated by ex-chairman of the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF), Dr. Subhash Appana. In response to allegations from Mudaliar stating his titles were unjustly stripped during the pandemic without any warning, Dr. Appana detailed the circumstances that lead to this action.

Mudaliar, who held the super featherweight and lightweight titles, faced issues due to weight and fight payments, which he said went beyond the promoters’ control. Dr. Appana explained, “I spoke with Krishnil’s brother Sachin about his belt, and he admitted he couldn’t maintain the weight. The same was true for Krishnil. As a result, both titles were declared vacant.”

Mudaliar had previously asked BCF to address the title confusion years earlier. He reportedly won the lightweight title from Junior Farzan Ali in May 2020. However, the title was declared up for grabs by Nathan Singh (now known as Ubay Haider) and Ronald Naidu in June 2020 during a Bula Boxing promotion.

“I found out that Krishneel had a title but neither Lale Usman (ex-BCF director) nor Krishnil informed me about a belting ceremony, which caused further confusion,” Dr. Appana added.

The former BCF head also noted Mudaliar’s decision to fight overseas rather than defend his titles, a decision similar to Shamal Ram Anuj’s to relinquish his title in talks with BCF.

Dr. Appana was succeeded by the current chairperson, Adi Narayan, last year.
