Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was rushed to the hospital today after experiencing severe abdominal pain at the Suva Magistrates Court.
During his bail variation application hearing this afternoon, defense counsel Davenesh Sharma requested that the court excuse Sayed-Khaiyum so he could receive medical treatment for his condition.
Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza granted the request, allowing Sayed-Khaiyum’s aide and brother, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, to accompany him to the hospital.
The court session was briefly adjourned so Sharma could consult his client, who was in significant pain from the beginning of the hearing.
Sayed-Khaiyum was lying in the accused box due to the intense pain and appeared pale and distressed in the courtroom today.
He has also been excused from attending court tomorrow for the bail variation ruling.
