Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was rushed to the hospital today after experiencing severe abdominal pain while in the Suva Magistrates Court.
During his bail variation application hearing, defense counsel Davenesh Sharma requested the court to excuse Sayed-Khaiyum so he could receive medical treatment.
Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza granted the request, allowing Sayed-Khaiyum’s aide and brother, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, to take him to the hospital.
The court took a short adjournment to allow Sharma to consult with his client, who was visibly in great pain throughout the session.
Sayed-Khaiyum appeared pale and unsettled, lying inside the accused box due to the severe discomfort. He has also been excused from attending court tomorrow for the bail variation ruling.
