Football World Mourns the Loss of Fijian Icon Epeli Rokotuva Kosa

The football communities in Fiji and New Zealand are in mourning following the death of former Lautoka and national team midfielder Epeli Rokotuva Kosa. Kosa passed away peacefully in Auckland, New Zealand, at the age of 66.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel, along with board members and the football community, expressed deep sadness at Kosa’s passing. Patel emphasized Kosa’s significant contributions to Fijian football, honoring him as a remarkable player and an inspirational leader of his time. He extended condolences to Kosa’s family during this challenging period.

Sachin Dutt, president of New Zealand Fiji Football Incorporated, stated that Kosa’s loss will be felt by many. “It’s a huge loss. I am in complete shock. He was a fantastic player and an inspirational leader,” Dutt said, offering heartfelt sympathy and prayers for Kosa’s soul.

Former national football representative Ronald Chaudhary, now residing in Canada, remembered Kosa as a good friend both on and off the field. “Kosa was humble, and we discussed soccer as casually as discussing food,” Chaudhary recounted. He noted, “It is indeed very sad for Fiji Soccer. You were an idol for so many. You sent motivational quotes every morning and always wanted the Fiji soccer community overseas to unite. Speechless and saddened to hear of your departure, big brother. I was looking forward to seeing you next year.”

Kosa’s legacy in Fijian football will be remembered by many who knew him.
