This weekend, Subrail Park in Labasa will be buzzing with excitement as locals have the unique opportunity to watch football for free and receive complimentary health checks as part of a two-day Inter-District Championship (IDC) organized by the National Wellness Medics Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
Set to commence today, this event aims not only to promote physical activity but also to enhance mental wellness among healthcare professionals and the wider community. Sponsored by BSP Life, the tournament will feature six competing teams comprised of medical professionals from across Fiji, with the reigning champions, the Suva medical team, looking to defend their title.
Each pool consists of the following teams: in Pool A, Suva Medics, Vanua Medics, and Nadroga Medics will compete, while Pool B includes Labasa Medics, Ba Aspen Medics, and Lautoka Aspen Medics. All teams will engage not just in a display of football skills but in fostering wellness and camaraderie within the medical community, according to programme liaison officer Ravneel Ravikash Chand.
The final match of the championship is scheduled for 3 PM on Sunday, with hopes high for a thrilling conclusion to what promises to be an enriching experience for participants and spectators alike.
The IDC presents an opportunity to build awareness about health issues, similar to last year’s successful tournament that highlighted the need to support the mental and physical wellbeing of medical professionals, while also promoting public health education. Such initiatives emphasize the importance of teamwork and community spirit, which are essential components in enhancing healthcare standards across Fiji.
As this event unfolds, the positive ripple effect on community engagement and health awareness will undoubtedly set a hopeful tone for future collaborations and initiatives in the region.
