Extra Bula FC held South Island United to a hard-fought 0–0 draw in their OFC Pro League Round One match at the Home of the Matildas in Melbourne. This tense encounter showcased the defensive strength of the Fijian side, who were on the back foot for extended periods against a dominant South Island team.

South Island United began energetically, nearly taking the lead early on when David Yoo hit the upright within the first 15 minutes. Their persistent offense continued to threaten Bula FC, exemplified by a critical moment around the 30-minute mark when Adam Supyk had to clear the ball off the goal line after a dangerous corner kick.

The standout performer for Bula FC was their young goalkeeper, Matthew Foord, who made a crucial save in the 65th minute by tipping a curling free kick from Ryan Feutz over the bar, preserving the scoreline. As the first half progressed, Bula FC struggled to establish their momentum. Their best chance came just before halftime when Kaile Auvray set up 16-year-old Maikah Dau, but the young forward’s shot sailed over the bar from a good position.

In the second half, Bula FC began to find their stride, becoming more threatening on counter-attacks. A powerful cross from Supyk forced South Island goalkeeper Steven Van Dijk into action, but Thomas Dunn was unable to capitalize on the rebound. The match remained competitive until injury time, when Kaile Auvray nearly secured a dramatic victory for Bula FC. His sharp effort, however, was skillfully saved by Van Dijk, keeping the game level.

The draw allows South Island United to move above Vanuatu United into fourth place in the league standings, while Bula FC remains in seventh, still tied on points with Tahiti United. The match highlighted the resilience of Bula FC, with a solid defensive performance and promising individual displays, especially from their young talent. This result, while not a win, offers a point of optimism for their season ahead.
