Food Fest Frenzy: Local Vendors Thriving in Suva!

The Adi Senitoa festival, taking place in Suva this week, is showcasing local businesses with an emphasis on culinary offerings. Nemani Saronicava, who leads a food business named Crave Crazy Fijian Delicacy, expressed optimism about the business’s recovery following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Saronicava mentioned that after five years of operation, their business is flourishing once again and has a presence at major markets in Suva. Many businesses at the festival are focused on supporting their families and rebuilding after challenges faced during the pandemic.

The festival features a variety of food prices ranging from $5 to $20, catering to different budgets. Local delicacies such as fish, meat, taro, and traditional Fijian dishes like Kokoda and lovo are available for purchase.

Arieta Ravula, a selected vendor from the Fiji Arts Council, highlighted the festival as a great way to showcase Fijian cuisine. At 61 years old and hailing from Namata, Bau, Tailevu, she has successfully run her small business for three years. Her offerings range from handmade bags to cosmetic items, with prices between $10 and $60.

As the festival progresses, Ravula noted that the sales from her booth could generate up to $1,000, emphasizing the importance of such events in providing a platform for local artisans and businesses. She expressed gratitude for the community’s support and excitement for future opportunities to promote their crafts.
