Fiji National University (FNU) has recently undertaken a significant initiative to expand educational access for students in remote regions, successfully conducting an application drive across the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This outreach effort has been met with appreciation from educators, notably Koro High School teacher Semisi Caucau, who commended FNU’s dedication to helping students overcome geographical barriers.

Caucau expressed gratitude for the university’s contributions, stating, “Your willingness to assist our students with their applications has made a profound impact, opening doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently.” He recognized the essential role FNU plays in prioritizing student futures and looked forward to potential future collaborations, highlighting the transformative impact of FNU’s outreach activities on local communities.

The outreach program included informative sessions at various schools, such as Vunisea Secondary School and Levuka Public School. FNU representatives engaged Year 12 and Year 13 students, providing critical information about academic programs and walking them through the application process.

Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, noted the enthusiasm of students, especially at Vunisea, where many sought to align their career aspirations with FNU’s offerings. “The excitement was palpable as Year 13 students interacted with our team,” she remarked, indicating their eagerness to explore potential pathways for the 2025 Semester 1 academic year.

The initiative was not only instrumental in providing essential academic information but also reinforced the connection between FNU and the communities it serves, showcasing the university’s commitment to empowering students and supporting their educational endeavors. A visit to Gau Secondary School highlighted this commitment, as Year 13 students dedicated their Saturday to engage with FNU staff and complete application forms, demonstrating their proactive approach to planning their futures.

The outreach campaign concluded at Levuka Public School, where FNU representatives further answered student questions and guided them through the application process, marking a successful end to this valuable initiative.

This outreach by FNU illustrates a commendable drive towards ensuring that education remains accessible to all, fostering hope and opportunity for students in remote areas. It reflects a growing understanding that educational empowerment can profoundly impact communities, laying the groundwork for brighter futures.

Overall, FNU’s outreach efforts are a positive step towards bridging gaps in education and showcasing dedication to student success.
