In an inspiring move to broaden educational access for students in remote regions, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team recently finalized a successful application drive across the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups.

Expressing gratitude, Semisi Caucau, a teacher from Koro High School, commended FNU for its unwavering commitment to supporting students despite geographical obstacles. He remarked, “Your willingness to assist our students with their applications has made a profound impact, opening doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently.” Mr. Caucau’s recognition underscores the transformative effects of FNU’s outreach initiatives on local communities.

The outreach campaign featured informative sessions at multiple schools, including Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. FNU representatives engaged Year 12 and Year 13 students, providing them with insights into various academic programs and guiding them through the application process.

Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, highlighted the enthusiasm of the students, particularly at Vunisea, where they eagerly sought to align FNU’s offerings with their career ambitions. “The excitement was palpable as Year 13 students interacted with our team, eager to explore their options for the 2025 Semester 1 academic year,” she stated.

This initiative not only made crucial academic information more accessible but also strengthened the bond between FNU and the communities it serves. The university reaffirmed its commitment to empowering students in their educational journeys.

At Gau Secondary School, Ms. Sharma noted the dedication of Year 13 students who spent their Saturday to engage with FNU staff and complete application forms. This enthusiasm illustrates their determination to plan their futures effectively.

The final stop at Levuka Public School marked a significant conclusion to the outreach campaign, where the FNU team addressed students’ questions and guided them through the application process.

In summary, FNU’s outreach effort has been a vital step towards ensuring that students in remote areas have the tools and support needed to pursue higher education. This initiative not only opens pathways for students but also highlights the importance of community collaboration in fostering educational growth. Looking forward, such outreach could pave the way for even more partnerships and opportunities for underprivileged students, nurturing a brighter future.
