In a noteworthy initiative aimed at improving educational access for students in remote regions, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team has successfully concluded an application drive throughout the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This project stands as a testament to FNU’s unwavering commitment to providing educational opportunities, even amidst geographical challenges.
Koro High School teacher Semisi Caucau expressed heartfelt appreciation for FNU’s support, highlighting the significant impact their assistance has made in empowering students to pursue their aspirations. “Your willingness to assist our students with their applications has opened doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently,” he remarked, further acknowledging the lasting influence of the university’s outreach efforts on the community.
The outreach campaign included informative sessions held at several schools, such as Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. During these sessions, FNU representatives engaged with Year 12 and Year 13 students, providing insights into various academic programmes and offering guidance through the application process.
Vijayta Sharma, acting manager of outreach at FNU, noted the excitement displayed by students, especially at Vunisea, where eager Year 13 students actively engaged in discussions about aligning their aspirations with the university’s programmes. “The excitement was palpable as Year 13 students interacted with our team, eager to explore their options for the 2025 Semester 1 academic year,” she stated.
The initiative not only provided essential academic information but also strengthened the relationship between FNU and the communities it serves, reinforcing the university’s dedication to empowering students. At Gau Secondary School, Ms. Sharma was particularly impressed by the commitment shown by Year 13 students who spent their Saturday completing application forms, showcasing their determination to plan for their future.
The outreach concluded at Levuka Public School, where the FNU team connected with students to address their questions and guide them through the application process. This effort demonstrates FNU’s ongoing dedication to fostering educational journeys and creating pathways for future success for students across Fiji.
In summary, FNU’s outreach initiatives have a profound influence on student empowerment and community engagement, setting a positive tone for future collaborations and continued support for aspiring students in the region. This is a promising glimpse into the potential for transformative educational opportunities that can shape the futures of many young individuals.
