FNU Takes the Lead with Over Half of TSLS Enrolments

The Fiji National University (FNU) accounts for 53 percent of the total students enrolled in the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS). Education Minister Aseri Radrodro announced in Parliament that there are currently 15,666 students receiving TSLS funding for the year 2024.

Among these, 8,333 students are enrolled at FNU, while 4,280 are studying at the University of the South Pacific. The University of Fiji has 902 TSLS recipients, the Sangam Institute of Technology has 319, Fulton College has 142, and Corpus Christi Teachers College has 100 students benefiting from TSLS aid.

Minister Radrodro disclosed that TSLS allocated $56 million to various tertiary education institutions during the 2022-2023 financial year, with an increase to $62 million for 2023-2024. FNU received $30.7 million, USP was awarded $13.1 million, the University of Fiji received $6.6 million, and the Sangam Institute of Nursing obtained $1.9 million.

He emphasized that TSLS has been actively enhancing its policies to ensure the effective and transparent management of taxpayer funds designated for scholarships and study loans. The number of students funded by TSLS has grown from 13,860 in 2023 to 15,666 in 2024.
