More than 20,000 individuals participated in the Fiji National University (FNU) Open Day, marking the highest attendance in the event’s history. The Open Day took place on October 3 and 4 at the Naduna, Namaka, Natabua, and Nasinu campuses, with Nasinu campus attracting 10,000 visitors on the opening day alone.
FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success. She emphasized the remarkable turnout, noting that the event attracted not only school students but also families, particularly on the second day. Nabobo-Baba highlighted the engagement of parents with lecturers and students regarding future opportunities for their children.
This year’s Open Day served as a valuable platform for students and their families to explore the academic programs offered by the university. The event also included participants from eight special schools and two kindergartens, indicating a growing interest in introducing higher education pathways to younger audiences.
“Parents and students were able to gain firsthand insights into campus life and the various courses available at FNU,” Nabobo-Baba stated. “The strong attendance reflects the increasing interest from schools and alumni in furthering their education with us.”
For families like that of Jone Ravuikadavu, who attended the second day with his three young daughters, the event proved to be a worthwhile experience. Ravuikadavu remarked, “Even though my children are still in primary school, this Open Day provided them early exposure to hands-on courses. They particularly enjoyed the live animal display at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry booth.”
With a diverse range of activities and exhibits, the FNU Open Day catered to all ages and interests, ensuring attendees departed with a better understanding of their educational options.
