Over 20,000 individuals participated in the Fiji National University (FNU) Open Day, which was held across four campuses, setting a record for attendance in the event’s history. The Open Day took place on October 3 and 4 at the Naduna, Namaka, Natabua, and Nasinu campuses, with the Nasinu campus attracting 10,000 visitors on the first day alone.
FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event. She stated, “We had a wonderful turnout, with not just school students, but also families joining in, especially on the second day. It was great to see parents engaging with lecturers and students about future opportunities for their children.”
This year’s Open Day allowed students and their families to explore the various academic programs available at the university. Participation included eight special schools and two kindergartens, highlighting a growing interest in introducing young learners to higher education pathways.
Nabobo-Baba remarked, “Parents and students had the chance to get firsthand insights into campus life and the various courses FNU offers. The strong turnout reflects the increasing interest from schools and former students in furthering their education with us.”
Families, such as that of Jone Ravuikadavu, who attended the second day with his three young daughters, found the event to be a valuable experience. He said, “Even though my children are still in primary school, this Open Day gave them early exposure to hands-on courses. They especially loved the live animal display at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry booth.”
With a diverse range of activities and exhibits, the FNU Open Day catered to attendees of all ages and interests, ensuring they left with a better understanding of their educational options.
