Over 20,000 individuals participated in the Fiji National University (FNU) Open Day, which took place across four campuses, marking the event’s highest attendance record. The campuses included Naduna, Namaka, Natabua, and Nasinu.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba expressed appreciation to all who played a role in making the Open Day a success. “We attracted over 20,000 attendees, comprising not just school students but also their families. It was encouraging to see families actively involved, especially on the second day,” stated Professor Nabobo-Baba.

She noted that the event catered to a diverse audience, as parents were able to discuss course options with lecturers and current students for their children. The Nasinu campus alone hosted over 10,000 visitors on the first day. Additionally, eight special schools attended, including two kindergartens, signifying that children are beginning to consider their future study options at FNU.

Professor Nabobo-Baba highlighted the significance of the 2024 FNU Open Day, describing it as a vital opportunity for students to learn about university life, ask questions, and understand the available academic programs. She mentioned that last year’s Open Day served around 16,000 individuals, while this year’s turnout reflected a heightened interest from schools and alumni seeking to advance their education.

Among the attendees was parent Jone Ravuikadavu, who brought his three daughters—Pearl, Emele, and Josivini—to the event’s second day. He remarked that, despite their primary school status, the Open Day offered his children valuable exposure to practical courses early on, particularly enjoying the live animal display at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry booth.

The event was supported by approximately 500 student tour guides who assisted attendees throughout the occasion.
