Over 20,000 individuals participated in the Fiji National University (FNU) Open Day across its four campuses, setting a new record for attendance at the event.
The Open Day, which took place on October 3 and 4 at the Naduna, Namaka, Natabua, and Nasinu campuses, was well-received, with the Nasinu campus attracting 10,000 visitors on the first day alone.
FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba expressed gratitude to all those involved in making the event a success. “We had a fantastic turnout, not just from school students, but also families, especially on the second day. It was encouraging to see parents interacting with lecturers and students about future opportunities for their children,” she remarked.
This year’s Open Day served as a platform for students and their families to discover the various academic programs offered by the university. The event also saw participation from eight special schools and two kindergartens, indicating a growing awareness of the importance of early exposure to higher education pathways.
“Parents and students had the chance to gain firsthand insights into campus life and the diverse courses available at FNU,” Nabobo-Baba added. “The strong turnout underscores the rising interest among schools and former students in furthering their education with us.”
Families like that of Jone Ravuikadavu, who attended the second day with his three young daughters, found the experience invaluable. “Even though my children are still in primary school, this Open Day provided them with early exposure to hands-on courses. They particularly enjoyed the live animal display at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry booth,” Ravuikadavu shared.
With a variety of activities and booths, the FNU Open Day catered to attendees of all ages and interests, ensuring they left with a better understanding of their educational options.
