In a significant stride toward improving education access for students in remote regions, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team has successfully concluded a series of application drives in the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This initiative aims to break down geographical barriers, enabling students to pursue higher education opportunities.
Semisi Caucau, a teacher at Koro High School, expressed deep appreciation for FNU’s efforts to support these students. He acknowledged that the assistance provided in the application process profoundly impacts students’ ability to chase their dreams. He remarked, “Your willingness to assist our students has opened doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently,” highlighting the positive influence FNU has on the local educational landscape.
The outreach campaign included informative sessions at various schools, such as Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. FNU representatives interacted with Year 12 and Year 13 students, offering detailed insights into academic programs and guidance on navigating the application process.
Vijayta Sharma, acting manager of outreach, noted the students’ enthusiasm, particularly at Vunisea, where they showed a keen interest in aligning FNU’s offerings with their career aspirations. She mentioned, “The excitement was palpable as Year 13 students interacted with our team, eager to explore their options for the 2025 Semester 1 academic year.” This illustrates the proactive approach students are taking towards their educational futures.
At Gau Secondary School, Ms. Sharma acknowledged the dedication of Year 13 students who took their Saturday to meet with FNU staff and complete their application forms, showcasing their commitment to planning for the future.
The last stop at Levuka Public School was met with success, as the FNU team addressed student inquiries and provided essential application guidance. This outreach initiative not only helped students access vital academic information but also reinforced FNU’s commitment to empowering learners within their communities.
This outreach campaign exemplifies the hopeful spirit of collaboration between educational institutions and communities, as it paves the way for students in remote areas to realize their academic potential and aspirations. The future looks bright for those students, as these efforts ensure that higher education is within their reach.
