In a remarkable initiative aimed at enhancing educational access for students in remote regions, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team has successfully concluded an application drive across the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This effort has been met with appreciation from local educators, particularly Semisi Caucau, a teacher at Koro High School, who commended FNU for its commitment to supporting students despite their geographical challenges.
Mr. Caucau expressed his gratitude, stating, “Your willingness to assist our students with their applications has made a profound impact, opening doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently.” He recognized the essential role FNU plays in prioritizing the educational futures of these students and highlighted the positive influence of the university’s outreach programs on the community.
The outreach campaign involved informative sessions at various schools, including Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. FNU representatives actively engaged with Year 12 and Year 13 students, sharing insights about different academic programs and guiding them through the application process.
Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, noted the excitement among students, especially at Vunisea, where many inquired about aligning FNU’s offerings with their career aspirations. She described the palpable enthusiasm during interactions with Year 13 students, who were eager to explore their educational options for the upcoming academic year.
This initiative not only provided vital academic information but also strengthened the relationship between FNU and the communities it partners with, reaffirming its commitment to empowering students and supporting their educational journeys. At Gau Secondary School, Year 13 students displayed remarkable dedication by taking a Saturday to meet with FNU staff and complete their applications, showcasing their commitment to planning their futures.
The final session at Levuka Public School marked a significant wrap-up of the outreach campaign, where the FNU team was delighted to connect with students, respond to their inquiries, and assist them through the application process.
This outreach program serves as a beacon of hope for students in remote areas, illustrating how dedicated efforts from educational institutions can inspire and empower the younger generation to chase their dreams. The positive impact of such initiatives not only enhances individual prospects but also contributes to the educational growth of entire communities, laying the groundwork for a brighter future.
