The Fiji National University (FNU) has successfully revived its Careers Fair after a seven-year hiatus, underscoring its dedication to equipping students for the job market and enhancing connections with industry partners. The 2025 FNU Careers Fair took place at the Nasinu Campus, marking its first occurrence since 2018, following a suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the event, Director of Academic Learning and Teaching Rusiate Vakaloloma emphasized the importance of the fair as a crucial platform to facilitate students’ transition from university to employment. He recognized the significant support from industry employers, noting that their participation reflects FNU’s robust partnerships aimed at fostering national development.
This year’s fair offered students valuable opportunities to engage with potential employers, discover job opportunities, and gain insights into current trends and expectations within various industries. The event allows students to enhance their employability skills while immersing themselves in professional environments, which is particularly relevant given the challenges posed by limited job openings in the country. Senior Curriculum Advisor for the Ministry of Education, Mr. Lasarusa Rakula, has previously highlighted similar efforts made to address these employment challenges, such as the recent Outsourcing Industry Career Fair in Suva.
The resurgence of such events is pivotal in bridging the gap between educational institutions and the workforce, as they not only provide practical experiences for students but also encourage meaningful dialogues about career aspirations. The broader commitment to integrated education and industry collaboration is a hopeful development for Fiji’s youth, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate the complexities of the modern job market and pursue fulfilling careers. The FNU Careers Fair exemplifies proactive steps toward empowering young individuals, instilling confidence as they embark on their professional journeys.
