Rajesh Singh, the former assistant chair of the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL), has been officially removed from the board by the newly elected chairman Apenisa Dansey. This decision comes in light of Singh’s non-compliance with governance requirements, as confirmed in a statement from the FNRL.
Details of the termination, which Singh reportedly refused to acknowledge by not signing the dismissal letter, highlight serious governance issues that arose during his appointment to the FNRL Board at the 2024 Annual General Meeting. At that time, Singh was obligated to resign from his position with the NRL Bid to prevent any conflict of interest. However, he failed to submit the necessary resignation letter, resulting in the NRL Bid remaining registered in his name—a violation of compliance and governance protocols.
Chairman Dansey emphasized that the action taken is necessary to uphold the integrity of the FNRL and to ensure that the organization’s governance standards are met. Attempts by FBC Sports to obtain Singh’s comments on the situation have not been successful.
This decision reflects a commitment to strong governance in the Fijian rugby league landscape, paving the way for a more transparent and compliant future for the organization. The FNRL’s proactive stance in addressing these issues sets a positive precedent for accountability and integrity within sports administration in Fiji.
