The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) is taking proactive steps to tackle the pressing issue of affordable housing for its members amid rising property and land prices in Fiji. At a recent member forum, Chief Investment Officer Naibuka Saune acknowledged the challenges many FNPF members face in accessing suitable housing.
Saune remarked, “The fund is actually exploring an opportunity for development as you’ve recently seen in the presentation by the CEO regarding the recent acquisition we’ve done with Fletcher Higgins, a well-known developer and builder. We aim to collaborate with developing agencies such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to explore opportunities for providing affordable homes.”
This initiative aligns with the FNPF’s broader strategy to enhance member services while addressing their housing needs. Saune emphasized the urgency of the housing crisis, noting, “That’s a serious issue, a problem that we currently face, but we assure you that we are looking into ways and opportunities to explore this further.”
In addition to affordable housing, the FNPF has been making significant investments that bolster its portfolio, including a recent acquisition of shares in Future Farms (operating as Rooter Chicken) and Fletcher Higgins. This diversified investment strategy supports the organization’s long-term financial health, which is crucial for ensuring the Fund’s ongoing commitment to its members’ welfare.
Further underscoring its strategic vision, the FNPF has reported a remarkable growth in its investment portfolio, now valued at approximately $10.6 billion, reflecting a robust 11.6 percent increase from the previous year. This growth has been propelled by strategic investments in various sectors, enhancing FNPF’s capacity to serve its members better.
