FNPF Introduces New Savings Transfer Option for Members

The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) has unveiled a new initiative named ‘Transfer of Savings on Entitlement,’ effective from January 1, 2025. This program enables members who have reached key entitlement events, such as retirement, to transfer a portion of their accumulated savings to the FNPF accounts of their loved ones, including designated beneficiaries.

This significant change follows amendments to the FNPF Act of 2011, which now allows members to delegate all or part of their entitlement payouts under specific conditions. FNPF’s Chief Executive Officer, Viliame Vodonaivalu, explained that this initiative aims to provide increased flexibility and control over retirement savings, especially during critical life moments such as medical incapacity or bereavement.

Vodonaivalu emphasized the importance of recognizing the diverse financial situations of members, and noted that this new feature encourages a supportive community among FNPF members. By allowing savings transfers, FNPF seeks to foster inclusivity and aid in securing financial stability for families during challenging times.

As part of the organization’s broader mission, this initiative demonstrates FNPF’s commitment to adapting its services to meet the ever-changing needs of its members. This trailblazing approach aims not only to improve financial security for individuals but also to strengthen community ties, enhancing resilience across families in Fiji.

In summary, the ‘Transfer of Savings on Entitlement’ program is a hopeful development that empowers FNPF members to support their loved ones effectively while navigating significant life events. It marks a positive shift towards a more adaptable and supportive financial landscape in Fiji, ultimately fostering a greater sense of community and assistance among family members.
