The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) has launched a new feature known as the ‘Transfer of Savings on Entitlement.’ Effective January 1, 2025, this initiative allows members who are approaching key entitlement events, such as retirement, to transfer a portion of their savings into the FNPF accounts of their loved ones, including designated beneficiaries. This marks a significant shift from the traditional contribution-based model, enhancing financial flexibility for FNPF members.

FNPF Chief Executive Officer Viliame Vodonaivalu highlighted that the new transfer option was enabled by recent amendments to the FNPF Act of 2011. These changes now permit members to delegate all or part of their entitlement payouts under specific conditions. Vodonaivalu emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating it provides members with greater control over their retirement savings.

The ‘Transfer of Savings on Entitlement’ feature is particularly beneficial during critical times, such as medical incapacitation or bereavement, enabling individuals to provide financial support to their families when it is most needed. By facilitating these transfers, FNPF aims to foster a more inclusive and supportive community among its members.

This new initiative aligns with FNPF’s broader goal of adapting its services to meet the evolving needs of its membership, providing tailored financial solutions that cater to various life circumstances. The introduction of this program not only reflects FNPF’s commitment to enhancing the financial well-being of its members but also emphasizes the importance of community and family support during significant life events.

In summary, the FNPF’s ‘Transfer of Savings on Entitlement’ offers a hopeful path toward greater financial flexibility and security, helping members assist their loved ones and strengthen community ties in times of need. This proactive approach to financial services is a vital step towards improving the overall quality of life for members and their families in Fiji.
