FMF Foods Limited has taken an exciting step into the beverage market with the launch of their premium Ceylon tea, sourced from Sri Lanka. This new product line is introduced under the ‘FMF Finest Premium Ceylon Tea’ brand and stems from a collaboration with Elpitiya Plantations, a well-known Sri Lankan tea producer. The tea is now available in supermarkets throughout Fiji.

The launch event featured Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, who highlighted the importance of such partnerships. He articulated how this collaboration could position Fiji as a significant player in the herbal tea market, creating job opportunities and boosting local businesses while also opening new export avenues. Kamikamica expressed optimism regarding Fiji’s strategic advantage as a Pacific trade hub, especially as global demand for organic and wellness beverages continues to grow.

Rohan Fernando, managing director of Elpitiya Plantations, expressed excitement about the partnership. He spoke about Ceylon tea’s distinctive qualities and its celebrated flavors that vary by elevation in Sri Lanka—ranging from the aromatic varieties grown in the misty hill country to those cultivated in lower terrains.

FMF Group’s marketing manager, Maria Kumar, noted that the decision to introduce tea was primarily driven by consumer demand, citing survey results that reflect a significant interest in tea among Fijians.

This launch aligns with broader discussions surrounding agricultural diversification in Fiji, reminiscent of growth in the kava sector. It reflects the government’s strategic focus on strengthening local agriculture, reducing dependence on tourism, and fostering economic growth through innovative practices.

The introduction of FMF’s Finest Premium Ceylon Tea not only strengthens the company’s product portfolio but also positions Fiji to tap into a flourishing global market focused on healthier consumption options. This initiative holds promise for enhancing local livelihoods and developing potential export markets, indicating a hopeful outlook for both FMF Foods and the Fijian economy as a whole.
