FMF Foods Limited has signed a five-year contract with the Fiji Football Association to sponsor the Inter-District Championship (IDC). The total monetary value of the contract was kept confidential, but Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel described it as a substantial deal.
Jimi Taniela, FMF group manager operations, stated at a press conference at the FMF headquarters in Suva that their decision to sponsor the tournament was motivated by a desire to engage with the community, foster local talent, promote healthy lifestyles and unify the people of Fiji. Taniela also noted that sponsoring the IDC, a prestigious, high-profile tournament, would significantly increase the visibility of FMF brands.
The IDC was initiated in 1938 and it first hosted matches between the teams of Suva, Ba, Rewa, Levuka, and Lautoka. The IDC has become the largest football tournament in the country since then, featuring 22 district teams.
Patel expressed gratitude to Courts for their past sponsorship of the IDC and welcomed FMF’s entry as the new sponsor. The IDC tournament for this year will take place at Churchill Park, Lautoka, from October 15-20.
