FMF Foods Limited has entered into a five-year agreement with the Fiji Football Association to sponsor the Inter-District Championship (IDC).
While the financial details were not disclosed, Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel described the deal as lucrative.
During a press conference at FMF headquarters in Suva, FMF group manager operations Jimi Taniela explained the motivations behind their sponsorship.
“It is our community engagement and development of all people,” he said.
“Our aim is to unite people around Fiji, promote healthy lifestyles, and assist in the development of local talents.”
Taniela highlighted that sponsoring the IDC would increase the visibility of FMF brands.
“The IDC is a high-profile event and a prestigious tournament,” he added.
The IDC was first played in 1938, involving the teams of Suva, Ba, Rewa, Levuka, and Lautoka.
Patel described the sponsorship as historic for both FMF and the 86-year-old tournament.
“First, I want to thank Courts for sponsoring the IDC in previous years. Now, new decisions have been made and FMF has stepped in.”
“The IDC is the biggest football tournament in the country, with 22 district teams participating,” he said.
This year’s IDC will take place from October 15-20 at Churchill Park, Lautoka.
