The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has announced an exciting new schedule for the Fiji national rugby team, highlighting a significant moment as they prepare for their inaugural Nations Championship matches in July. In a testament to Fiji’s growing prominence in international rugby, the Flying Fijians will host three prestigious fixtures against Wales, England, and Scotland across various venues in the United Kingdom, effectively transforming traditional away matches into home encounters.

The series kicks off on July 4 at Cardiff City Stadium, where Fiji will take on the Welsh national team in front of an anticipated crowd of 32,500 fans. Fiji Rugby Board Chairman John Sanday expressed optimism regarding the match, noting the importance of this historic event for the team’s future and the high likelihood of a packed stadium.

Following this, on July 11, Fiji will officially host England at Hill Dickinson Stadium. This match is expected to serve as another pivotal milestone for Fiji rugby, showcasing their talent on an elevated stage. The campaign culminates on July 18 with a much-anticipated clash against Scotland at the renowned Murrayfield Stadium, a venue with a rich rugby history. Sanday remarked on the significance of this fixture and the longstanding rivalry between the two nations, which has been ongoing for over four decades.

The FRU emphasizes that these three matches are essential components of Fiji’s long-term development strategy, providing invaluable exposure to top-tier teams in challenging environments. This approach not only aims to boost the national team’s performance but also solidifies Fiji’s standing in the newly established Nations Championship framework. The upcoming fixtures represent an optimistic step forward for Fijian rugby, promising an exhilarating experience for fans and players alike.
