Former Coach Simon Raiwalui and the FIJI Water Flying Fijians received two prestigious accolades at the 2023 Fiji Sports Awards held in Suva last night. Raiwalui was honored with the Coach of the Year award, while the Flying Fijians were recognized as the Team of the Year.
His coaching accomplishments included leading Fiji to triumph at the Pacific Nations Cup, pulling off a remarkable upset against England at Twickenham, and securing a historic victory over the Wallabies for the first time in 69 years during the World Cup in France last year. Additionally, he played a key role in guiding the Flying Fijians to a quarterfinal appearance at the World Cup, a milestone not achieved in 16 years.
Raiwalui was absent from the ceremony, and the award was accepted by FRU administrator Sale Sorovaki on his behalf. The Flying Fijians were commended for their significant achievements in 2023, which notably included their victories over England and the Wallabies.
