Former coach Simon Raiwalui and the FIJI Water Flying Fijians received significant recognition at the 2023 Fiji Sports Awards held in Suva last night. Raiwalui was awarded Coach of the Year, while the Flying Fijians were named Team of the Year.
Raiwalui earned this accolade for leading Fiji to victory in the Pacific Nations Cup and for significant wins, including an upset against England at Twickenham and a historic victory over the Wallabies, marking their first win against Australia in 69 years during the World Cup in France last year. He also played a crucial role in helping the Flying Fijians reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup, a milestone they had not achieved in 16 years.
Due to his absence at the event, FRU administrator Sale Sorovaki accepted the award on Raiwalui’s behalf. The Flying Fijians were celebrated for their remarkable achievements in 2023, particularly their wins against England and Australia, further cementing their status in international rugby.
