Former coach Simon Raiwalui and the FIJI Water Flying Fijians received significant recognition at the 2023 Fiji Sports Awards held in Suva. Raiwalui was awarded Coach of the Year, while the Flying Fijians were honored as Team of the Year.
Raiwalui earned this accolade for leading Fiji to triumph in the Pacific Nations Cup and notable victories, which included a surprising win against England at Twickenham and defeating the Wallabies for the first time in 69 years during the World Cup in France last year. He also played a crucial role in guiding the Flying Fijians to their first quarterfinal appearance in 16 years at the World Cup.
Although Raiwalui was unable to attend the awards ceremony, FRU administrator Sale Sorovaki accepted the award on his behalf. The Flying Fijians were celebrated for their impressive accomplishments throughout 2023, including their historic wins against England and Australia.
