Former coach Simon Raiwalui and the FIJI Water Flying Fijians received significant recognition at the 2023 Fiji Sports Awards held in Suva last night. Raiwalui was honored with the Coach of the Year award, while the Flying Fijians earned the title of Team of the Year.
His recognition came as a result of leading Fiji to triumph in the Pacific Nations Cup and achieving historic victories, including a remarkable upset against England at Twickenham, as well as defeating the Wallabies for the first time in 69 years during the World Cup in France last year.
Additionally, Raiwalui was commended for his contribution in guiding the Flying Fijians to their first quarterfinal appearance at the World Cup in 16 years. Although he could not attend the awards ceremony, FRU administrator Sale Sorovaki accepted the award on his behalf.
The Flying Fijians were celebrated for their notable accomplishments in 2023, including their historic wins over England and the Wallabies.
