Fiji Water Flying Fijians captain Tevita Ikanivere emphasizes the significance of set-pieces as they prepare for their upcoming Pacific Nations Cup match against Tonga. Following a commendable performance against Samoa, the 24-year-old expresses confidence that the team will return even stronger for their second match.
Ikanivere recognizes the physical intensity of the game against Samoa and praises the efforts from both sides. “The boys did well in our opening match; it was a great game from Samoa. They played their hearts out, and it was very physical,” Ikanivere remarked.
He acknowledges the determination shown by his players in achieving victory and stresses the necessity for ongoing improvement in their upcoming games. “We have time to work on our mistakes and be fit and ready for our next match.”
With an opportunity to address their errors and boost fitness levels, Ikanivere remains positive about their preparation for the next game. “There is a lot of work to do, especially in our set-pieces, but we’ll get that right and we’re looking forward to Tonga in the next two weeks.”
Ikanivere and his team will have adequate time to prepare for their clash against Tonga, set to take place in Nuku’alofa on September 6. In the meantime, Samoa will host Tonga this Friday at Apia Park at 3 p.m.
