The Fiji Water Flying Fijians have announced their lineup for the upcoming match against Spain in the Autumn Nations series. A notable highlight is the debut of Saimoni Uluinakauvadra, a former Fiji Warrior player. Head coach Mick Byrne expressed his admiration for Uluinakauvadra, praising his physicality and fitness as a number seven player.
Byrne remarked, “Spain is a very physical team. They will come hard at us, and Saimoni has been performing well in the number seven position. He’s very physical over the ball, and his fitness levels are outstanding. We’re eager to see him debut and demonstrate his talents, having developed through our system over the years.”
Emphasizing the need for a strong squad throughout the challenging series of four tests in northern conditions, Byrne noted, “To play four consecutive tests in this environment, we need our full squad. We’re giving the opportunity to a few players who have been consistently training hard to show what they can do and secure their places in our team for the future.”
The starting lineup for the match features Eroni Mawi, Sam Matavesi, and Luke Tagi in the front row, with Mesake Vocevoce and Ratu Leone Rotuisolia as locks. The back row is comprised of Vilive Miramira, Saimoni Uluinakauvadra, and Albert Tuisue. Simi Kuruvoli and Caleb Muntz fill the halfback roles, while Ponipate Loganimasi and Jiuta Wainiqolo occupy the wings. Captain Waisea Nayacalevu partners with Sireli Maqala in the midfield, and Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula will be at fullback.
The bench includes Mesulame Dolokoto, Haereiti Hetet, and Jone Koroiduadua for front row support; Temo Mayanavanua as lock backup; and Elia Canakaivata covering the back row. Backline replacements include Peni Matawalu, Vilimoni Botitu, and Inia Tabuavou.
The match against Spain is scheduled for 2 AM tomorrow, marking a significant moment for Uluinakauvadra and the team.
This debut not only underscores Uluinakauvadra’s journey and hard work but also illustrates the depth of talent within the Flying Fijians squad, paving the way for potential future stars. Fans can look forward to an exciting match that could set the tone for the remainder of the series.
