Olympic silver medalist Ponipate Loganimasi is set to make his full debut for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians as they face Scotland in their inaugural match of the Europe Tour this Sunday.
Loganimasi, who previously made a significant impact by scoring two tries off the bench during Fiji’s victory over Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup, will start on the left wing. Additionally, the team welcomes two more potential debutants: Swire Shipping Fijian Drua backline players Kemueli Valetini and Waqa Nalaga, who have been named in the reserves.
Coach Mick Byrne has assembled a robust starting lineup featuring Haereiti Hetet, Captain Tevita Ikanivere, and Samuela Tawake in the front row. Isoa Nasilasila and Ratu Leone Rotuisolia are set as locks, while Ratu Meli Derenalagi and Kitione Salawa will take on the blindside and openside flanking roles, respectively. Elia Canakaivata will play at Number 8.
In the halfback positions, Frank Lomani and Caleb Muntz will lead the play, with Loganimasi and Vuate Karawalevu providing speed on the wings. The midfield will see Inia Tabuavou and Apisalome Vota teaming up, while young talent Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula is slated to play at fullback. The reserves also include Mesulame Dolokoto, Livai Natave, Jone Koroiduadua, Mesake Vocevoce, Vilive Miramira, and Simi Kuruvoli alongside Nalaga and Valetini.
The Flying Fijians will face Scotland at Murrayfield, with kickoff scheduled for 5:40 am this Sunday.
This matchup not only marks an important step for Loganimasi and the new talents joining the squad but also showcases Fiji’s commitment to nurturing young players and integrating them into the high levels of international rugby. With a strong lineup and the excitement of debutants, fans can look forward to a thrilling contest.
