Clarity is crucial for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians as they prepare for their Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup match against Samoa this Friday. The team convened in Suva on Saturday, where they held their induction and attended a church service on Sunday before beginning training sessions on Monday.
Head coach Mick Byrne noted that all selected players reported in good condition following the All Blacks Test in July. During their initial training session, Byrne emphasized the importance of the players being aligned in their objectives for the tournament.
“Just like everything in life, if you’re 100 percent sure in what you’re doing, you can go at 100 miles an hour. You need to be 100 percent committed to it,” Byrne stated. “If you’re unsure about what you’re doing, there can be hesitation. Our primary goal in the limited time we have is to achieve clarity so that everyone understands what we need to do and their individual roles.”
Byrne expressed satisfaction with Monday’s training, noting that the players had a clear understanding of their responsibilities. “We trained with intensity and physicality. All roles were executed well, and everyone was in a positive mindset. This is a testament to the team’s preparation since Saturday when the game plans were distributed, leading up to yesterday’s training session,” he added.
The team also presented its itatau on Monday, with the captain’s run scheduled for tomorrow. The match against Samoa, set for 6 pm on Friday, will be the only international fixture played on Fijian soil this year, taking place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
