Former national captain Koli Rakoroi expressed his confidence in the FIJI Water Flying Fijians as they gear up to face their Northern Hemisphere rivals, starting with Scotland this Sunday. Rakoroi, who led Fiji to its first quarter-final appearance in the 1987 Rugby World Cup, firmly believes in the team’s capabilities and their spirit.
“I know the boys will deliver a strong performance out there. We believe in them, and they will put on a good show,” Rakoroi stated. He underscored the importance of unity and focus, elements that have always been vital for the team.
“The key has always been about playing together as a family, embracing our Fijian spirit, and showing resilience,” he added. Rakoroi trusts this current squad will play for each other and represent the nation as they did in their time.
He also noted that the Flying Fijians need to harness the confidence and energy they displayed during the 2023 Rugby World Cup, but with a renewed intensity. “The 2023 World Cup highlighted this team’s potential. They’ve faced challenges, including issues regarding player allowances, and now it’s time to concentrate solely on the game,” Rakoroi pointed out.
Encouraging the players to take pride in their journey, he emphasized the significance of wearing the Fijian jersey. “This tour is an opportunity to showcase what it means to represent our people and culture on the world stage. I know these boys are ready to give their best,” he commented.
After their match against Scotland, the Flying Fijians will face Wales on November 10, Spain on November 17, and Ireland on November 23.
The spirit and determination shown by Rakoroi and the Flying Fijians serve as an inspiration for both the squad and their supporters. This tour not only represents a chance for the team to prove themselves on a grand stage but also to showcase the rich Fijian culture and pride through their performances.
As they embark on this journey, there is a palpable sense of hope and anticipation surrounding the team’s upcoming matches, with fans eager to witness their dedication and talent shine through.
