Flying Fijians’ Performance Under Review: What’s Next?

Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is set to present a review of the team’s recent performances to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week. FRU chief executive officer Rovereto Nayacalevu stated that it is standard practice for the board to evaluate all performance aspects following each campaign.

Byrne has returned from Australia and will discuss the recent tour with the board during the upcoming meeting. When inquired about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ latest performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged that although the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory against Georgia and the improvement in their world ranking provide a foundation for future development.

Nayacalevu pointed out concerns regarding limited access to players due to the scheduling of the Barbarians game in Twickenham, which took place during the Super Rugby season and outside the World Rugby access window. He emphasized that these are significant areas of concern.

He also noted that all staff members, including Byrne, have established key performance indicators (KPIs) as part of their job descriptions. He mentioned that any directives would be given after the review process once Coach Mick returns to Fiji.

Additionally, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
